After a full year of researching, dreaming and planning we have re-invented Multnomah Playschool outdoor play areas to more closely reflect our philosophy and values. When you walk onto the playground you will see many different areas where the children are invited by the environment to enter and explore. Their bodies, imaginations and hearts are engaged by details both big and small. From the huge sand pit with the water tower and open framed playhouse to the small details such as interesting rocks that capture the imagination – there is something here for every child.
This project took the efforts of many to bring it to fruition. We are grateful to our former co-president, Nicole Olszewski who was the project manager. The design was completed by Leon Smith of Planet Earth Playscapes. And we were able to accomplish so much because we had the support of our local Lowe’s Hardware store. We were fortunate to be named a Lowe’s Heroes site and benefited from some very generous donations of materials and many Lowe’s staff members who came and volunteered on our community build day. Of course none of this would have been possible without the effort and enthusiasm of the many Multnomah Playschool families, friends and alumni who turned out to haul rocks, dig holes, run power tools and mix cob.
We invite you to come explore this amazing space and revel in the wonders of the natural world!
